Fundraising Gala

The JMT Wilderness Conservancy

The JMT Wilderness Conservancy hosted a celebratory gala in the fall of 2023 to commemorate their donors and provide information on their upcoming projects. I not only organized the event itself, but I also designed all of the elements of the event stationery set.

I didn’t want to stray too far from the vision of previous years’ galas, but I felt that everything could be elevated and made more cohesive. The chateau itself is richly decorated, so along with choosing greenery as event decoration instead of florals, I also wanted to keep the stationery simple and complementary to the Beaux-Arts style interiors. Aside from the color images in the save-the-date cards and invitation envelopes, everything else is purely text-based with black printing on heavy white cardstock. I chose a traditional, but legible, script font and an accompanying sans serif for additional text.

Postcard Save the Date cards featured an image of the venue, Carolands - a Beaux Arts château south of San Francisco.

Envelope inserts had a watercolor version of the Conservancy’s primary branding photo, an image of Cathedral Peak along the JMT in Tuolumne.

Cardstock invitations used blind debossing for the “JMT- est. 1915-” at the top of the page with traditional letterpress printing for the rest of the information.

Letterpress bookmarks with poignant quotes about wilderness and the power of collective change served as adornment within the decorative place settings and were taken home as guest favors.

Tea-length letterpress menu.

I chose The Aesthetic Union in San Francisco to produce all of the letterpress elements of the event design set. This women-run print shop utilizes vintage tools and traditional techniques to create high-quality products.
