Stellar Brew
Stellar Brew is a locally-owned coffee shop in the small, touristy mountain town of Mammoth Lakes, CA. While working there in 2017, I realized that as a result of the high employee turnover due to the seasonal nature of the town, there was a lack of consistency in staff training. One person moving on at the end of the season would mean that there might not be anyone to consult a month later for the actual drink recipes!
I approached the owner with the idea of creating a fun, graphic-focused training sheet that would be helpful for new employees and wouldn’t look out of place displayed in sight of customers by the espresso machine.
Stellar Brew’s branding is colorful, casual, and a little funky. I tried to match that feeling while also aiming for a clean and legible design. Rounded mugs, playful layers, and subtle shading make the illustrations as enjoyable to look at as they are informative to new employees.
It’s a great spot to check out the next time you’re in Mammoth and need a pick-me-up, especially if you’re heading out for an early backcountry mission - their doors are open at 5:30 am every day!
